Recommended Links

These are websites and links I recommend perusing in your spare time, should you feel the want or need. There is also a variety of programs and games, most of which are free to use. Some of these you might have heard of before, but I'll put them in anyway for the people that didn't.

Websites

  • autofish.net - Personal website of clysm. Has a lot of interesting and entertaining pages about vidya games.
  • Crusty Windows - Site that documents and preserves Windows bootlegs. A lot of funny and interesting stuff, including plenty of time capsules.
  • The Cutting Room Floor - Excellent wiki for pre-release and removed content from video games. Fun to read through during downtime.
  • The Doom Wiki - Great independent wiki about all things Doom, with high quality articles. Also covers stuff like Heretic and Hexen. Fuck Fandom.
  • dreambones.neocities.org - Personal website of Cassidy "Dreambones". Has a lot of fun stuff and a cool style.
  • GuessTheGame - Daily guessing game for video games, similar to Wordle.
  • IsThereAnyDeal - Excellent resource for finding game sales from legitimate sources. Also has historical data about sales, which can be useful to determine if a current sale is worth it for you.
  • Jet Set Radio | LIVE - A Jet Set Radio themed radio site with curated playlists of various genres and moods. Enjoyable listen.
  • Knockout! - A webforum which is the successor to the old Facepunch forums. I'm not an active poster but I check threads I'm interested in daily.
  • Monkeytype - Simple but very useful site for measuring your typing speed and accuracy.
  • Pomofocus - Good timer utility which can help with focusing on certain tasks.
  • Radio Garden - Internet radio site that lets you easily explore internet radios around the globe.
  • slashedout.org - Personal website of Slashed Out. While still a work-in-progress, I do like what it has so far. Hope to see more soon.
  • SMW Central - Fun and valuable hacking resource for Super Mario World. Has tons of ROM hacks and other content.
  • The Something Awful Forums - Ancient but very much active webforum with tons of content, both old and new, to peruse. Requires purchasing an account to fully access.
  • Ukikipedia - Speedrunning wiki full of information about Super Mario 64.

Games & Game Utilities

  • At Least There is Čeda Čedović - Badass platformer game with an incredible amount of polish and very specific humor.
  • DSDA-Doom - My currently preferred choice for a Doom source port. An actively maintained fork of the now defunct PrBoom+ (RIP) with plenty of unique features. A handy launcher for it can be found here.
  • Hyper Princess Pitch - Awesome freeware Operation: Carnage inspired shooter with a Princess that shoots bricks.
  • Pony Town - Fun pony-themed hangout game with a very deep character creator.
  • Universal Paperclips - Simple but addictive idle game about making paperclips.

Programs & Other Utilities

  • FileZilla - Quick and easy file transfer program. Also my personal choice for all sorts of FTP activity.
  • foobar2000 - Great audio player with loads of customization options. Has a very sleek interface.
  • GIMP - Worthy alternative to Photoshop, while being free and open source. Has a bit of a learning curve, but is otherwise incredibly powerful.
  • LosslessCut - Incredibly handy and simple video editor. Very useful for quick cutting of video clips.
  • Mullvad VPN - My personal VPN of choice. While slightly limited in its locations, it's a fantastic service that has consistently worked for me with great performance. They even recently moved their whole infrastructure to be diskless, which is pretty cool. Has a flat rate of €5 per month.
  • Nicotine+ - The best graphical client for use with the Soulseek network.
  • Notepad++ - Great text editor with a lot of customization and features. Fun fact: It's what I use to write my markup for this site!
  • paint.net - My image editor of choice. Very convenient and easy to use, while having lots of functions and further expandability and customization with plugins.
  • projectM - Not to be confused with the Super Smash Bros. Brawl mod of the same name, this is an awesome music visualizer which is also compatible with the classic MilkDrop presets.
  • qBittorrent - The single best torrent program, as far as I'm concerned. Has all the features you could possibly want, while being 100% free and open source.
  • qimgv - Very simple but quick image viewer. While the compiled releases are a bit outdated, they are still completely usable. The program itself is still being developed.
  • ShareX - Multi-functional screenshotting tool, with features such as being able to take GIF recordings of your screen and upload your screenshots automatically to a remote server.
  • WACUP - Unofficial continuation of the original iteration of Winamp, with additional plugins and updates. Requires closed beta access for the very latest releases, but the public preview builds are still great and usable.
  • WizTree - Blisteringly fast alternative to the WinDirStat disk analyzer program.
